back to the bum life

and so now..the 10 month internship is over.

(temporarily though for me)

i'm back to the bum life.. spending my days in front of laptop. surfing the web till i realize that it's been a half day since i woke up and im still in bed..then i still surf.. till mr.sandman comes to take me into his slumbering arms...and another day had passed. it's a cycle, and i love it.

unfortunately, graduation is not one of the things i'm busy with right now. (unlike my other dear classmates) Well, things got a little bit "shaky" during the last few months of internship.

No one reads this blog so i'll write it down anyway...

Well it was during my second to the last clinic when my 5 month running cough and colds got worst. Throughout the rotation i had accumulated 3 absences (still 1 day safe from the alloted maximum of 4). During the midrot evaluation, i was informed that they are having a hard time grading me since I had three absences, and there were only a few times in which they observed me handling a patient. Moreover, they were concerned about my health, as they knew that I was still not relieved from my sickness yet I was trying very hard to go to the clinic as i did not want to be dropped. During the last 2 weeks, majority of my patients were absent. During the last week, they informed me that they wanted to see more of my skills as they were unable to observe me. They also discussed the possibility of taking the "further training" during the summer....

Thesis defense day came...and oh well we had the 'closure' talk.

Yep. I ain't graduating and I would have to take my 'further' training on June...oh well. that's life. you get delayed once, you can do it twice.

I already spent 7 years in grade school, now I'm spending 6 in college. Damn. i love being a student!

obviously, this would be my first post for 2010!

I miss updating my blog. It's like ages since I wrote a decent entry here!
So, as for 2010, here are the updates:

-currently on my second to the last clinic rotation, which is EAR unit at PGH :)
The first week was quite queasy on the stomach for me, as compared to my previous clinics. As for one, I haven't handled Audio cases (patients with hearing impairment) since my first clinic rotation last june. I must say that the approach to teaching children with hearing impairment to talk is quite different as compared to teaching children with autism/adhd/down syndrome language and speech. I am really having a hard time on thinking of activities on how I could elicit and achieve my goals. However, since I am in a specialty clinic, I am excited to learn more therapy techniques and know more evaluation do's and dont's when treating children with hearing impairment. I guess, this is really one great way to start 2010--a challenge! :)

*maybe I'll learn a thing or two from my patients on how to "listen" and do american sign language*

-another update: i am still currently bombarded with previous papers from my last clinic (another one located at PGH). I really miss my kids there..and as i am slowly crawling to the finish line of having my monitoring sheet completed, I think about them and hope that they're doing well and wish their new handlers would have good rapport with them. I also miss my cherchers too!!! (fria, da, and karen!) I must admit, this center is one hellofa rollercoaster ride. but I loved it there! :)

-hmmm..now I just realized how I really missed blogging! this entry is really one good relief from the endless clinical papers that I have been doing for the past weeks now. :D

It's been merely three years ago since I first experienced the so-called "dorm life"

and for some odd reason, I got tired of it and opted to become a masochist by commuting everyday from Laguna to Taft ave. ^_^

And now, I'm going back to my so-called dorm life!!! weeeh!!

I'm pretty much excited about it...

I moved in my stuff this afternoon in my new room 505 (huhhu i miss 509!!!)

It felt like l was in first year college again!!! hahahah. I'll be officially moving-in next week. Hence,

no more Internet-all-you-can for me

Good thing though, I finally figured out how I can use my cellphone, connect it to my laptop and turn it into a modem and connect to the Internet.. hooray!!!

Odd as it may seem, I'm actually excited to go back to my dorm diet...(apples, oranges, more apples, instant noodles, canned goods, anything instant, donuts, bread, skyflakes, and the like) Actually, I only have two meals during dorm days namely..lunch and merienda (I rarely have dinner, and I'm not much of a breakfast person)

I wonder though, how baywalk looks like at present. I used to jog there (from pedro gil to CCP and back) during mornings (yes, those were the days when I still had the will to get up at 5am in the morning), hehe. Back those days, they still had the dinosaur thingy along with mister sharky and all those pretty lights and restaurants.Last I heard was that they got evicted or something, due to tax evasion or something like that.

I also have new roomates! I met one this afternoon, her name is Karen. As of present there are three of us in the room, and I heard a fourth roomate would be moving in pretty soon. I'm kinda nervous though, 'coz I'd have to adjust to my new roomates along with new room rules and the like. I'm pretty much comfortable with my old room (509), 'coz I've stayed there for more than 3 years..so me and ate Lilet were pretty much like the "big bosses" of the room hehe (we kinda bullied new comers, especially if they were unorderly with their stuff)

Seeing my dorm today was simply exhilirating and exciting. Adrenaline rush!!! ^_^
I just hope I could still write articles though. T_T

Nonetheless, I'm reaaaalyyy reallyy excited!

ever since sembreak started, i wasn't able to create a decent blog entry (not that i'm saying this one's decent lol) two weeks na ata since our neuro finals, or maybe one? haha i really have no sense of time and date these days.

since my cousin is staying with us throughout the break.. i actually have someone to talk to! hooray. along with the fact that i have someone to share my buhay bum regimen with. now if you're wondering what the heck is the buhay bum regimen.. let me give you the essential points:

11am/12pm - wake up.

12pm-4pm -eat late lunch on bed, playing games on the laptop, surfing the net, and basically do our best at being unproductive..

4pm-5pm - hunt for merienda, while doing the same stuff in bed (e.g. surfing the net..STILL)

5-7pm- go for that late late late afternoon siesta...still in bed. (we're not couch potatoes you see,,, we're more of bed potatoes hahha)

7pm-8pm usualy dinner time however we tend to pass...and instead stay glued to our lptop screens.. trying to finish sally's salon or jane's realty, or whatever diner-dash-like game we just downloaded or probably watch some japanese anime thingy my cousin loves to watch

11pm-12am- this would probably be the time where our stomachs get pro-active. since we passed dinner, this would be the time when we go for a very very late diner/ midnight snack.
we try to cookup something...eat... and...still stay online.

12am-3 or 4am- surf surf surf. shessh.. till we get sleepy, go to sleep and repeat the whole thing all over again.

di na kami lumalabas ng kwarto. hahahah. as i say to people who dare enter my room, "this is a wifi friendly zone" at sabi nga ni kuya sa bday greeting niya sa cousin ko "happy bday, may buhay sa labas ng kwarto!!!" hahahah.

lol. damn. i love sembreaks.

oh well... im gonna miss going online anyway... dorm na ulit ako next sem!!!

hay... dahil dito sa aming bum-galore-lifestyle... now im cramming up 15 articles for fat loss. to think of it I even write lines like... "living a sedentary lifestyle is bad for you!" lmao. talk about practicing what you preach. hahhahaha!

One boring day, I was surfing the net (as always), looking for some flash menus for my sony ericsson w810i. My only goal that day is to modify my phone.. but guess what I found? A humble website that: taught me how to transform my windows xp to vista-ish feel and looks, provides thousands of mobile games (69 of w/c are already installed in my phone), contains applications (mobile dictionary, Bluetooth hack, free mobile web browser, and etc.), taught me techniques for unlimited sms and mms, gives links to movie downloads, answered my question on how to watch TV using your pc - without spending for tv tuners (channels from other countries and cables are also included - HBO, AXN, cartoon network, Disney channel, Nat’l geo, discovery, mtv, etc), informed me on how to earn while just doing my regular internet activities, and more..

For some reason, this time around, I feel a bit ecstatic about the exam.

Not that I'm prepared for it or anything..

I just want to get over it.

Just last week my topic was 'learn to draw'...

so.. i had to write about 'how to draw anime... rabbits, dragons, dogs, and a lot of other stuff.

haha. i couldn't help myself from drawing as i was researching for the topics.

I think there's this therapy approach that we can use in managing severely hearing impaired individuals (I just forgot about the name though) where we would use pictures if they really can't communicate anymore.

20 in 1: Cleaning Up And Adrenal Fatigue

No work for me today!

I took a day off to study for my neuro exam on thursday.
(as usual, i still can't get my butt off my bed and start studying)

I feel so relieved right now, yesterday, my work load was CRAZY!!!

Apparently, there's this oh-so-responsible writer who screwed up.
I mean, totally screwed up big time! And since I haven't got a
working assignment from my boss yesterday, guess what..

I ended up cleaning his mess.

I actually had to edit 20 articles, all about adrenal fatigue.

Well, to be specific, I edited 19 and made 1 article.
(since there was a missing file in the zip folder)

And to be even more specific, I ended up
REWRITING 19!!! and creating one article.

It turned out to be that the oh-so-genius writer
had plagiarized majority of his work. (Thank God for Copyscape!)
I mean like full copy paste of whole paragraph blocks!!!
Copyscape was very colorful indeed.

So, I had to clean up the dirty work all in one day (14 hours to be exact).

20 articles all in one sitting.

I need a life.

- if your glands do get tired, it ends up breaking out. -> adrenal fatigue

-your ad glands poduce "cortisol", -> the one responsible for your lower belly fat.

-> the more depressed/stressed you are, the more cortisol it produces.

->the more cortisol you've got, the more you get big.

-> then you live the sedentary life.

-> sedentary as in...BUHAY BABOY.

->you get problems waking up in the morning

-> you get insomnia

-> you keep on relying on caffeine and other stimulants just to get you through the day. (*caching! B-I-N-G-O!!!)

->you get depressed, moody.

-> you get BRAIN FOG a.k.a. MEMORY BLOCK. a.k.a the feeling you get when taking your NEURO exam.

-> you feel so energetic during evenings

-> methinks me is positive for adrenal fatigue.

-> methinks i have to study for neuro now.

Disney And Me

If you have no idea of what I do besides being a pseudo bum and a pseudo student;
then I should tell you that I am a web content writer.

Web content writing is fun.
It is. (in a very twisted way)

However, the thing I love most about this 'job' is that I get to learn new things.
And when I say 'new', I do mean 'alien-out-of-this-world' kind of knowledge.

I've written numerous topics ranging from puppy training, subliminal messages, hoodia diet pills, hypertension, speech therapy, foreclosures, identity theft, miami condos, real estate, loan, government grants, scams, tv antennas, seo marketing, business tips, australian hotel accommodations, canadian parks, panic attacks, bedroom designs, landscape lighting, infidelity, big fish gaming, camping outdoors, life coaching, dyslexia and a lot more odd things that I never thought I could write about.

The latest topic I am working on is about Disneyland.

I love it.

I just do.

Darn it. Just give me the G's and I swear I'm gonna have that Disney vacation for a whole month!
Not to mention that I plan on having a Disney Fairytale Wedding (even without a groom! hehe) and get to ride Cinderella's carriage! :P

Seriously, simply reading about Disneyland/World and viewing their site makes me drool about it.

The value of the UP Experience

There are no children here

This week, I went to a meeting at the UP School of Economics and I came
away with renewed belief in the value of the UP experience.

If you speak to anyone from UP – student, professor, alumnus - you will get
no Latin slogans or apologies about how the school teaches values in spite
of its outward materialism. This is not a student population that thinks
about
basketball games or memorizes school songs. This is not a school that
chooses one statement to drill into the minds of its students.

This is not, of course, to say that UP does not care about values. It is
that
UP, in its own inimitable way, believes that values cannot be force-fed.
The statue of the naked man that guards the entrance to the campus in
Diliman best represents UP's approach to all education and the respect for
students that is the center of its educational philosophy. All who come to
this university, regardless of origin, bring themselves naked, carrying
nothing
but their thirst; like the proverbial empty teacup, making an offering of
self,
waiting to be filled.

Adults

For many students from private schools, the first lesson that is learned
here is that this is a school for adult education. There are no children
here,
and that is why no parents are allowed either at freshman orientation or
during enlistment.

The spirit of the oblation lies not in a mother or a father offering up his
child to the world, it is that of the newly adult, freely offering of his
self.

I remember quite vividly that moment that drove home how different the
UP education continues to be. It was my daughter's first semester in
university and she had invited a group of her high school friends to our
house. One of them asked a classmate whether she had gotten her parents
permission form approved for that weekend's outreach activity. From the
UP population around the table came the mock horrified responses of:
"Permission? " and "Outreach?"

I thought about it and realized that all of these students were, in fact,
legally adults. I thought it interesting that only the UP students appeared
to appreciate this fact.

Even more interesting was the "outreach" comment. I think back to my own
university years and the last three years that my daughter has been in UP
and am certain there is no lack of civic activity. There are medical
missions, house building projects, tree planting, community work and barrio
work and so on. I realize now that the reaction was not to the activity as
much as it was to the use of the word.

One of the most important differences of the UP campus from all the other
campuses my children considered going to is that this campus has no walls.
Many parents fear this. They are afraid their precious children will not be
protected from the ills of society in a campus that is so open to the rest
of
the world.

But UP is open to the world in more ways than just not having the physical
walls.

Community

Being in UP means much more than being a student. This campus is
enmeshed in a community. This community is made up not only of the
transient population of students who go home each night. It includes the
many,
many students who lay their heads on dorm pillows each night, enduring time
away from families in the firm belief that this campus will bring them
closer to
their dreams. This community includes the families of faculty and employees
who live on campus. It also includes the many people who work not for the
University, but nevertheless work on campus. This community includes the
lady who remembers the brand of cigarette you smoke and automatically
hands it to you in the morning. It includes the gentleman who remembers you
like pepper on your egg sandwich or the one who knows you will dip your fish
balls into two of his sauces, who patiently waits for you to eat your three
sticks before being paid. It includes the woman who saw all her children
through college by selling peanuts every day on campus.

To a UP student, the daily heartbeat of the school is never far away from
the realities of the country. The word outreach suggests that civic activity
is
something outside of the normal, something you do once in a while. It must
be
immensely difficult to think of community as a thing apart when your campus
experience brings you face to face with all of the world's realities every
day.

Character

All of this probably explains that unmistakable sense of self that you will
find from students who come from this campus.

Here is a campus where all have the same opportunities to learn. But also,
here is a campus that will give all the same opportunities to fail. There
are no
guidance counselors who will chase after you because you have been skipping
classes. The attitude this university takes is that you must take the
initiative –
for learning, for seeking help, for realizing you need help.

That is not to say that no help exists. But it is help that is not forced
upon you.

This is a university rich in both introspection and conversation. On this
campus,
the student is constantly exposed to people – faculty, administrators,
community
members, other students – who care deeply and passionately about the world.
The conversations are almost never purely cerebral. A single graph can
provoke
comments about government policy and its effects on people.

As a result, UP is home to a student population that looks at the world and
cares.
It is easy to see pictures of protesting students and dismiss it as
radicalism. But
there are few campuses in this country where students go beyond a passing
curiosity
about what is happening in the world beyond their own lives. There are even
fewer
universities where students not only care but also actually believe they
have a
responsibility to make a difference – not in some hazy future – today.

And that, I believe, is what truly forges character. Character is not molded
by
speeches or long classes in ethics or theology. Character grows from within.
It
begins by being handed the keys to your own self and being told you are in
charge;
you now have power over yourself and your own actions – and with that power,
you
take on responsibilities.

Each student in this university goes through his own unique voyage of
discovery.
On his voyage, as he decides what he cares about, what he will fight for and
what
he will sacrifice, he crafts his own personal values. That is what education
is truly about.

I was researching for my articles about traveling to Italy when I came across this website sleepinginairports.com. And so, I browsed their site and decided to see their airport reviews. Just for fun I tried to look up Philippines on the list, and there was a link on Manila airport... surprise surprise, this is what they had to say:

gas prices and rants

Okay, this may seem pretty weird but my first post here would actually be on gas prices.

No, do not fear. I wouldn't be discussing about any political hula-balu here.

You see, I'm a student, and I commute going to school.

The thing is, I live way far from my school.

Laguna (home) - Manila (school)

back in highschool and those spoiledbrat days of mine, I never really thought much about price hikes and such, since of course I was a kid.

Coming from an exclusive school, I was brought to school by car and fetched from school by car; and of course dear kuya eric's school bus!

I really did not care much about gas prices, until the past couple of weeks that it had been boosting way high!

Maybe I wouldn't really care if I'm getting a fare allowance from my parents, but oh well...the brave me decided to venture through this sem alone. --I pay for the tuition, my fare, my everything.

I really had no idea that prices would balloon up like that!

I mean come on, a one way busride from here to manila used to be 48 bucks --> 54 bucks -->68 bucks!!! (take note, those are all student fare rates)

okay, so this is a ranting post.

so sue me.
